In this class, artist Catherine Hollingsworth will guide you in drawing plants from life. Students will choose a botanical subject and learn to render the plant accurately, to see it more clearly, and to translate its shape and form into a drawing. Our focus will be on cultivating a state of mind that allows you to slow down and truly see the plant in front of you. Not only will you gain a new skill, but you will also deepen your appreciation for the plants living all around you. All skill levels are welcome. Materials and plant specimens will be provided.
Catherine is a visual artist whose work centers around plants and our relationship to the natural world. She has a BA in Visual Arts from Brown University and is pursuing a certificate in Botanical Art and Illustration from the New York Botanical Garden. She has shown her work in Miami, FL and Charlotte, NC, and is an active member of Charlotte’s creative community. She is also co-owner of Microfarm Organic Gardens, a local builder of custom cedar garden beds and greenhouses.
