Gardens for all
Accessibility at Wing Haven
We’re committed to making our gardens and programs more welcoming and accessible to all. Explore the information below, and don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions.
-
Wing Haven incorporates a mix of brick, woodchips and gravel pathways throughout each of our gardens. The majority of the brick pathways at Wing Haven Garden & Bird Sanctuary are easily accessible to guests with mobility or physical disabilities. A few of the smaller, side pathways are narrow and uneven due to root growth underneath.
-
Accessible parking is located on the street directly in front of the Foundation Office at 260 Ridgewood Avenue.
-
There are benches and chairs located throughout the gardens to provide opportunity to rest. Click here for a map with marked seating areas.
-
Wing Haven welcomes visitors with properly identified service animals that provide assistance.
Please note that pets of any kind are not permitted.
-
The restrooms and drinking fountains available in the Children’s Garden are wheelchair accessible. The restrooms available in the Elizabeth “Pepper” Dowd Education Building are accessible through the side door of the building.
-
One-to-one aides or attendants of guests with disabilities receive complimentary admission with the exception of ticketed events. Check in with our host in the Clarkson House at 248 Ridgewood Ave to obtain a complimentary ticket for your personal care attendant.

Wing Haven is committed to creating an inclusive, diverse, equitable and accessible culture where the contributions of all community members are valued, respected and appreciated. We invite and welcome people of all abilities, backgrounds, races, religions, cultures, ages, genders and sexual identities. Just as a garden requires ongoing cultivation and tending, Wing Haven pledges to continually reflect on and adapt IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity & Accessibility) principles.
