Wing Haven Travel: Spring Gardens of Virginia

  • Charlottesville, VA (map)

You are invited to join Wing Haven on a special tour of seven private and one public garden with C. Colston Burrell, a noted garden designer, lecturer, author and photographer.

Nestled in the shadows of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Charlottesville, Virginia claims Southern hospitality, natural beauty, and a front seat to American history.

Virginia has a rich agrarian tradition. Gardening was a necessary activity providing food for the family and pleasurable settings for study and relaxation. Early gardens were generally formally laid out. Vegetable, herb, and flower gardens were often merged and gardeners took great pride in the utilitarian and aesthetic qualities of their gardens. During our visit, we will see the best of contemporary gardens of central Virginia. Drawing on this rich tradition, we have the opportunity to discover a wealth of gardens displaying innovations in both design and planting.

The private gardens open exclusively for our tour present a wide variety of styles and sizes, from intimate city spaces to sweeping country estates. You won’t want to miss this rare opportunity to visit with avid gardeners surrounded by annual flowers, exuberant tropical foliage, ornamental grasses, and spring bloom.
