Lecture Series: Understanding Birds of Prey

  • Wing Haven Education Building 248 Ridgewood Avenue Charlotte, NC, 28209 (map)

Speaker: Stephen Hughes

More than 150 species of bird, notably numerous varieties of songbirds, have been sighted at Wing Haven Garden & Bird Sanctuary.  Wildlife educator and artist, Stephen Hughes will cover the topic of birds of prey. Raptors fit very well into the garden as they are a part of the animal habitat that directly affects the gardens.  Screech, Barred, Great Horned and Barn owls, as well as indigenous hawks and falcons, live in and around Wing Haven. Mr. Hughes will not only impart his knowledge about these beautiful creatures, but will have a variety of these amazing birds with him during the presentation. Get up close and personal with his birds of prey! Intertwined in this lively presentation, Mr. Hughes will share his personal stories of working alongside Eddie and Elizabeth Clarkson at Wing Haven.

Stephen Hughes is a naturalist and wildlife educator and artist. He is a Master Falconer and helped start the North Carolina Falconry Guild. Mr. Hughes has consulted the Carolina Raptor and Rehabilitation Center and worked on the “Wild Kingdom” television show.
